Terms & Conditions
Last updated: March 2026
1. About Us
Language Travel UK ("we", "us", "our") is a platform that connects international guests with British host families and host teachers for the purpose of language immersion and cultural exchange. By using our platform, you agree to these Terms & Conditions in full.
2. Definitions
Guest — any individual or organisation making a booking request via the platform.
Host — any individual offering accommodation or teaching services via the platform.
Booking — a confirmed agreement between a Guest and a Host, facilitated by Language Travel UK.
Platform — the Language Travel UK website and any associated applications.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and make a booking. Bookings on behalf of minors must be made by a parent, legal guardian, or authorised school group leader who accepts full responsibility for the minor's conduct and welfare.
4. Bookings & Payments
All bookings are subject to Host acceptance. A booking is only confirmed once payment has been processed and a confirmation email has been sent to both parties.
Prices are quoted in GBP and inclusive of our platform service fee. Prices for lessons and transfers are displayed separately and are optional add-ons.
Payments are processed securely via Stripe. Language Travel UK does not store card details.
5. Cancellations & Refunds
Guest cancellations: Cancellations made more than 28 days before the start date are eligible for a full refund minus the service fee. Cancellations within 28 days are non-refundable unless the Host cancels first.
Host cancellations: If a Host cancels a confirmed booking, the Guest will receive a full refund including the service fee. We will endeavour to find alternative accommodation at no extra cost.
Refund requests must be submitted in writing to admin@languagetravel.co.uk. We aim to process refunds within 10 working days.
6. Platform Messaging & Communication Policy
All communication between Hosts and Guests must take place exclusively through the Language Travel UK platform messaging system until a booking has been confirmed and payment processed. This policy exists to protect both parties, ensure transaction security, and maintain the platform's ability to mediate disputes.
The following are strictly prohibited in platform messages:
- Sharing personal phone numbers or mobile contacts
- Sharing personal or business email addresses
- Sharing social media usernames, handles, or profile links
- Sharing external website URLs or links
- Requesting or encouraging the other party to move communication off-platform
- Any attempt to arrange payment outside of the Language Travel UK booking system
Violations of this policy are subject to a three-strike system:
- Strike 1 & 2: A formal warning is issued. The violating content is removed from the message and the incident is logged for review.
- Strike 3: The user's account is automatically suspended pending administrative review.
All violations are reviewed by the Language Travel UK team. Accounts may be permanently terminated where violations are deemed deliberate or repeated. Language Travel UK reserves the right to suspend or terminate any account without prior notice where a serious breach of this policy is identified.
7. Host Responsibilities
Hosts must provide accurate, up-to-date information about their property and availability. Hosts must maintain a valid enhanced DBS certificate where required and comply with all safeguarding requirements set by Language Travel UK.
Hosts must not share guest contact details with third parties or attempt to conduct bookings outside the platform.
8. Guest Responsibilities
Guests must treat Hosts and their property with respect. Any damage caused during a stay is the Guest's responsibility and may result in a charge equal to the cost of repair or replacement.
Guests must not share personal contact details with Hosts until a booking is confirmed, as all pre-booking communication must pass through the platform messaging system.
9. Safeguarding & Minors
Where bookings involve minors (under 18), the booking party (parent, guardian, or school group leader) accepts full legal responsibility for the minor's welfare outside of the host home.
All Hosts are subject to DBS checks and in-person home inspections. However, Language Travel UK is not a childcare provider and does not accept liability for incidents that occur outside the host home environment.
10. Limitation of Liability
Language Travel UK acts as an introduction and facilitation platform. We are not a party to the agreement between Guest and Host and accept no liability for any loss, injury, or damage arising from a stay.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from use of the platform shall not exceed the value of the booking in question.
11. Intellectual Property
All content on the platform, including text, images, and branding, is the property of Language Travel UK or its licensors. You may not reproduce or distribute any content without prior written permission.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
13. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Contact
